Dear Friends of PCUMM, I found inspiration in the words of Psalm 36 this week: 5 Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds. 6 Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the ocean depths. You care for people and animals alike, O Lord. 7 How precious is your unfailing love, O God! All humanity finds shelter in the shadow of your wings. 8 You feed them from the abundance of your own house, letting them drink from your river of delights. 9 For you are the fountain of life, the light by which we see. (Psalm 36:5-9 NLT) These verses in Psalm 36 are a beautiful affirmation of who God is. The Psalmist is reminding us that God’s love and faithfulness extend way beyond us, into the heavens. God’s righteousness is as solid as the mountains, we can build our life on it. God’s justice is as deep as the oceans, we can trust in it. God’s care for humans and animals is universal. We can find shelter and sustenance in God. In fact, God is the fountain of life and light by which we can see. Those are meaningful images for us in these days. I look to human leaders and they are flawed. But I look to God and I see a being I can trust in. May we each look to God for love and faithfulness, for righteousness and justice. Then may we each do our part to manifest love, faithfulness, righteousness, and justice in our spheres of influence.
